“Founded in Paris in April 1929, the journal *Documents* represented a crucial moment in the literary careers of Georges Bataille, Michel Leiris, and Carl Einstein. Van Hecke’s *Variétés*, or Georges Ribemont-Dessaignes’s *Bifur* ” (Georges Sebbag, “The World’s Most Unclothed Journal,” Introduction, *Bataille Leiris Einstein / Le Moment Documents April 1929–April 1931*, Jean-Michel Place, 2022).
