HUIDOBRO (Vicente). El Espejo de Agua. Poems 1915–1916. Second edition. [Followed by]: Arctic Poems. Madrid: [Printed by Pueyo], 1918. — 2 works in one in-12 volume, 175 x 122: (8 ff.); (49 ff., first blank). Green cloth, smooth spine decorated with two double fillets, speckled edges (contemporary binding). A set of two rare poetry collections by Vicente Huidobro (1893–1948), a major Chilean poet and founder of Creationism, who revolutionized Latin American poetry. The volume includes the second edition of *El Espeja de Agua*. This collection was first published in Buenos Aires in 1916. Dedicated to Fernán Félix de Amador, it comprises nine short poems, written in an intimate and symbolist style, composed in 1915–1916. It notably includes the manifesto poem “Arte poetica.” This is followed by the original edition of a second collection, *Poemas árticos*, dedicated to Juan Gris and Jacques Lipchitz. It consists of 44 poems written in Paris between 1917 and April 1918. It was during his trip to Madrid in 1918 that Huidobro published these two collections. On that occasion, he also published *Ecuatorial*, *Tour Eiffel*, and *Hallali*. These works mark Huidobro’s decisive transition from poetry still influenced by Symbolism and Modernism to an autonomous poetic style that laid the foundation for the Creationist movement. Copy in a slightly later binding. The first leaf is slightly browned. The second volume has narrow margins. The list of the author’s works, on the back of the title page, is slightly trimmed.
