FRANCE, SECOND QUARTER OF THE 19TH CENTURY
A set of eleven cheese knives, with round-tipped blades etched with hunting scenes and village motifs—all different on one side—and foliage patterns on the other, reminiscent of the work of the Klingenthal factory. The ebony handles are accented with gilded copper palmette motifs at the top and bottom and a shield engraved with the initials “LP”—probably standing for Louis-Philippe—framed by cut-out arabesque motifs inspired by Louis XIV.
Condition: blades have pinholes; one ferrule is missing on one side of one of the knives; a copper band needs to be reattached.
Length: 20.8 cm
