Porcelain brush washer in the shape of a bat, China, 19th century Shaped like a hemisphere reminiscent of a fruit or an open bowl resting on the outstretched wings of a bat sculpted in the round, which wraps around the vessel. The interior is entirely coated with a glossy turquoise glaze, contrasting with the exterior, which is covered in a coral-red enamel. The bat, rendered in a naturalistic style, has its head turned forward, its ears erect, its eyes slightly in relief, and its wings spread wide, with the membranes blending into the walls of the vessel while serving as supports. The body and wings are accented with fine gold dots that outline the wing veins and highlight the fur, while the front of the cup is adorned with a flower surrounded by foliage, and small golden blossoms are scattered across the reverse side, concealing minor imperfections. Length: 11 cm Minor wear and firing imperfections.
