Small porcelain jar with two handles, China, Yuan Dynasty, 14th century Ovoid in shape with a slightly lobed form, the body is divided by vertical ribs in slight relief; it is topped by a short, flared neck with a scalloped rim, flanked by two small, horizontal, perforated cylindrical handles. It is glazed in blue under a decoration of flowering chrysanthemum branches, rendered in a free, cursive style, alternating with panels left unglazed. The glaze, which has a slight bluish tint and features a few small, scattered cobalt dots, also covers the inside of the neck, while the base is left unglazed. An inventory label is affixed to the underside. Height: 9.5 cm Some wear, micro-chips, and minor firing defects. The two-part construction, characteristic of many small vessels from this production, as well as the shape of the handles and the floral decoration, bear close resemblance to several blue-and-white porcelain jars from Jingdezhen dating from the Yuan Dynasty, particularly in collections of ceramics from Southeast Asia.
