First edition, printed on February 15, 1937; no large-format edition was published. *Il Poema africano della divisione “28 ottobre”* ” is a Futurist poem inspired by Marinetti’s experiences during the Ethiopian War of 1935, where he served in the “October 28” Division under the command of General Umberto Somma. For Marinetti, this work marks “the definitive victory of free words over traditional free verse—syntax-bound, logical, and with rigid punctuation marks.” An autobiographical account, the poem evokes, in particular, the Battle of Passo Uarieu, one of the most difficult battles of the conflict.
