Claude MONET. Autograph letter, Giverny, May 21, 1916, [to his friend Gustave Geffroy]; 3 pages, in-8, in black pencil, with a “Giverny” letterhead by Vernon Eure.

He “wrote to Mirbeau to ask if, given the beautiful weather, he might be able to come over for lunch here; his wife replied that he is still too weak and that it is out of the question for the moment.” Monet therefore suggests “postponing the little gathering until later—either August or September—since a gathering of the Goncourtists without Mirbeau seems impossible to me.” As for his own health, “I’m doing fine, though I feel myself growing older and tiring more easily.”
