Pierre-Samuel DU PONT DE NEMOURS (1739–1817). P.A.S., Paris, 6 Brumaire XI (October 28, 1802); 1 folio page, revenue stamp.

Certificate attesting to the itinerary of citizen Jacques Dounous, who, after leaving Saint-Domingue in 1793, sought “necessary refuge in the United States; he lived successively in Philadelphia, Baltimore, Little-Town, West Virginia, and Kentucky, until he traveled down to Louisiana, from where he returned to New York at my invitation.” He was shipwrecked several times, during which he lost his most valuable papers: “it was not within his power to return to France sooner than he did.”
