Portable silver divided writing case, Ottoman Turkey, 19th century Large oblong silver writing case with chased floral decoration, champlevé and partly gilded at the ends. Flanked by an inkwell with cut sides opening on the top, with vegetal decoration on the edges and chased floral composition under the base. Signed Afdal [?] Rumî on the pen tray, also hallmarked. Under the inkwell, a tughra, probably that of Sultan Mahmoud II (r. 1808-1839). Inside the pen box, several wooden calames and inside the inkwell, remnants of ink.
