Hyacinthe de QUÉLEN (1778-1839) archbishop of Paris. L.A.S. (minute), Paris March 21, 1824, to Marquis de Dreux-Brézé, Grand Master of Ceremonies of France; 1page in-4 with erasures and corrections (small tear on one edge repaired).

On the burial of the Duc d'Enghien. He received the ceremonial decreed by the King: "The circumstance of the transport and burial of the mortal remains of Monseigneur le Duc d'Enghien in the chapel of the Château de Vincennes is too solemn and at the same time too delicate for me to abandon the care of it to any ecclesiastic; I would believe I was failing in the respect I owe to the King and his august family if I did not intervene personally in this ceremony, and if I contented myself with sending one of my grand vicars. I therefore intend to go to Vincennes myself on the 27th to lift, transport and deliver the body to the chapel, to give the bishop and clergy whom Mgr. the Duc de Bourbon will have invited the appropriate faculties to join in the burial service, and to authorize the chaplains to continue the provisional service that will have been established. There can be no doubt as to the competence of the ordinary ecclesiastical authority"...
