LOUISE-ÉLISABETH DE FRANCE, duchesse de PARME (1727-1759) eldest daughter of Louis XV, wife (1739) of the Spanish Infante Philippe de Bourbon, duc de Parme. L.A., Versailles April 3, 1758, to her husband the Duke of Parma; 3 pages in-8.

Long letter to her husband on the proposed marriage of their daughter to the Crown Prince of Austria.

She gives detailed news of her father Louis XV, who has had a fever... Then she discusses the intrigues for the marriage of the future Joseph II [who in 1760 would marry Isabelle de Bourbon-Parme, daughter of Louise-Élisabeth]: "the reply from Vienna has arrived, but they want more secrecy than ever, their situation is [...Their situation is [...] unpleasant and worrying, they preferred us to the youngest daughter of the King of Naples, who still persecutes them, they desire very much that this court of Naples should not have the preference that we have had, the bad situation of their affairs, The poor state of their affairs does not allow them to say so at a time when they are very ill at ease in Germany, without troops in Italy, without security on the side of the King of Sardinia, and if the Court of Naples were to prick itself, they would fear everything with good reason for this side of their states too, so they ask for the utmost secrecy for a few more months". She therefore insisted that her husband keep the secret, as Louis XV also requested... Before closing her letter, she adds, at 3 a.m., that the King is feeling better... She concludes, falling asleep: "I kiss and kiss you a thousand times, I love you more than madly. The whole family loves toy more than ever, and is completely lost in the desire to know you - they're right.
