[HENRI V, Duke of Bordeaux]. Marc-Antoine de BOMBELLES (1744-1822) diplomat, became a priest after the death of his wife, he was bishop of Amiens. L.A.S. as Bishop of Amiens, Paris September 29, 1820, to his cousin Mlle de Bombelles in Metz; 1page in-4, addressed with black wax seal of arms. Birth of the Duc de Bordeaux. The letter follows a handwritten announcement: "At 22 minutes past two in the morning, a strong and well-constituted Duc de Bourdeau was born to the bravest of mothers. The King rubbed his lips with a clove of garlic, and in imitation of what was done at the birth of Henri IV, this precious child was made to drink a drop of Juranson wine. An hour after his birth, he was anointed by the Bishop of Amiens. The Princess and her son are doing wonderfully well. Bombelles adds: "As the child was born before the obstetrician had time to arrive, Madame la Duchesse, when he appeared, did not want the umbilical cord to be cut before the Mal Suchet and three national guards, taken at random from the nearby guardhouse, were present. Never was the birth of a child more attested to, and no less so the inexpressible presence of mind of a woman extraordinarily distinguished in every good respect"... We enclose 2 prints from Bordeaux (in-8, printed by Veuve Cavazza), on the birth of the Duke of Bordeaux: Nouvelles officielles de Paris..., and Naissance de Monseigneur Henri-Charles-Ferdinand-Marie-Dieudonné, duc de Bordeaux... - Plus a letter addressed to the bishop of Amiens, "premier aumonier de S.A.R. Monseigneur & Madame la Duchesse de Berry", on the letterhead of La Commission du Conseil d'Administration pour le Monument religieux à élever aux Broteaux, à la Mémoire des Victimes du Siège de Lyon, signed by 8 people, August 8, 1819, concerning the Duke and Duchess de Berry's subscription (2p. in-4).
