Jacques-Pierre BRISSOT DE WARVILLE (1754-guillotiné 1793) Conventionnel (Eure-et-Loir), Girondin. L.A.S., Paris November 3, 1786, to Miss Capper in Holborn; 3pages in-4, addressed (small tear from broken seal repaired, ink stamp from Jules de Gères collection in Mony).

About his pamphlet on Quakers. He thanks the dear Miss for spreading his "pamphlet on Quakers", and will pass on others to her. Some passages are in English. He evokes a retort, to which he will be obliged to respond, and he will take the opportunity to rectify the errors the Quakers have reproached him with. "I'll send you, dear Miss, whatever I shall publish on that important subject [...] I like the Quakers, & I hope I'll be allowed to pay, perhaps the next year, a visit to your brethren in America - indeed if there was more resistance amongst the Quakers against tyrany, I presume I would become one of them. But I cannot believe God has imbibed my mind with a so strong aversion against despotism to submit my reason, my thoughts, my faculties to whims of so despicable things"...

He gives news of Félicité, Nancy and all his family, before announcing: "I have got a very good place in the house of Orleans, where I may indulge my exclamations & thoughts towards the public good & forpromoting every useful invention"...
