[Ernst von BERTOUCH (1821-1904) chamberlain to the German emperor and historian]. Collection of 34 L.A.S. or L.S. addressed to him, 1888-1889; approx. 50p. various sizes, numerous headings, with envelopes (qqs stamps removed), all mounted on tabs in one vol. in-4 hardback, black cloth spine, title label on upper cover; most in German (and English, Danish or French). Author of two large genealogical charts of the Danish royal family from 1089 to 1889, on the occasion of the King of Denmark's jubilee, Councillor von Bertouch obviously tried to interest all the European crowned heads allied to the Danish sovereigns in his work. He received responses (sometimes less than friendly, particularly from the Imperial Court of Russia) from ambassadors, ministers, chamberlains and secretaries of the members of the ruling families he contacted throughout Germany, but also in Denmark and Russia, Great Britain (the Princess of Wales) and as far afield as Portugal.
