Long banner decorated with nine characters from the Peking Jingju Opera, China, 19th - 20th century The horizontal banner with red background, embroidered with polychrome and metallic silk threads, depicts traditional Chinese Jingju opera characters. The make-up and costumes correspond to classic role types (heroes, generals, scholars, female or comic characters), some with black or red horsehair beards. They stand on waves. Some of the edges of the garments and waves are trimmed with leather and embellished with white fur.
