Statuette of Avalokiteshvara in gilded copper alloy, Tibet, 19th century Standing, crowned by eleven heads arranged in five rows, the highest being a small head of Amitabha Buddha, above a wrathful head followed by nine heads with serene expressions, all above a slender body wearing ornate jewelry and loose robes. There are eight arms, the main hands clasped in front of his chest in anjali mudra, as if holding a wish-granting gem. The upper hands are in vitarka mudra, those in the middle hold a wheel and bow with arrow, the lower right hand makes the gesture of supreme generosity, the other holds a kundika (lustral water jug). The divinity is set, with the help of a tenon, in a lotiform base on which a crowned divinity reclines. The plinth is probably not his own, as this representation of Ekadasamukha Avalokiteshvara is usually never depicted perched on a reclining deity. Height: 20 cm; weight: 1415 g (base: 948 g; statuette: 465 g)
