Jasper snuffbox decorated with a horse, sun and bird, China, 1800-1860 Rectangular in shape with rounded shoulders, one side is flat and undecorated, while the other is decorated in a rusty vein of jasper. The scene depicts a horse tied to a gnarled pine tree, standing on the lower part of a pierced rock above which appears the sun in a cloud in the shape of a ruyi head. On the star is incised the character 日- sun. To the right of the horse, at the bottom of the short side, stands a bird carved in a green vein. The decoration on the bottle wishes its owner "hope for promotion". Oval foot and neck. Turquoise stopper.
