Famille rose porcelain punch bowl decorated with hunting scenes, China, Compagnie des Indes, 18th century On an iron-red and gold ground with geometric motifs, the outside of the bowl is decorated with two large cartouches depicting a fox hunt with horsemen and hunting dogs in a landscape with Western architecture in the distance, and two smaller cartouches depicting Chinese scenes with figures and children in gardens near traditional dwellings. The interior of the bowl is decorated around the rim with a frieze of flowers wrapped around a bamboo stem. In the background, a medallion depicts a Chinese horseman escorted by two men on foot, one shooting a fox with a rifle, the other carrying a stick on his shoulder from which birds hang. Two dogs accompany them. Diameter: 28.5 cm Significant restoration.
