We would like to thank Dr. Salomon Grimberg for the information he provided. In August 1940, Leonora Carrington was admitted to Doctor Morales' clinic in Santander. The following month, as she recovered, she began to draw. Some of her drawings - including ours - were preparatory to Down Below, the second painting she executed while hospitalized.
