Rare standard of the 3rd cuirassiers regiment. Consisting of three 19.5 cm wide bands of tricolor silk. Painted in gold on one side "LE ROI DES FRANÇAIS AU 3e Regt DE CUIRASSIERS" adorned with the number 3 within oak leaf and laurel wreaths at the four corners. The reverse marked in the center "VALEUR ET DISCIPLINE" adorned at the four corners with vertical winged thunderbolts within wreaths of leaves and laurel. Three sides adorned with 4.5 cm gilded passementerie bangs. The last side adorned with a gilded passementerie braid decorated with a wavelet and a muff adorned with three eyelets at the top and bottom. All framed under two-sided glass. Dimensions of silk without sleeve: 60 x 60 cm A.B.E. (slight wear and color variations). July Monarchy period. History of the 3rd cuirassiers regiment (1635-1875)", bound in red morocco with corners. Provenance: The standard and history are reputed to have come from the Rénusson d'Hauteville family, a member of which, Jules, was colonel commander of the 1er cuirassiers in 1870. History: Although the July Monarchy established an official model, the era sometimes left room for minor variations. Our model differs in two respects, while retaining the size and main characteristics of the flags of the period. Firstly, the orientation of the lightning bolts, which are vertical rather than diagonal, foreshadows the model adopted in 1848. Secondly, the legend "VALEUR ET DISCIPLINE" replaced "HONNEUR ET PATRIE". However, in addition to the Foreign Legion flags, Pierre CHARRIE notes that the 1st cuirassiers regiment has this motto.
