Louis-Joseph GAY-LUSSAC (1778-1850). L.A.S., Thursday [1833], to M. Wilson; 3pages in-8, addressed. About a note by Michael Faraday, which was printed late in the Annales. Gay-Lussac had given this note to Arago "who had taken it upon himself to have it translated, and to follow its printing"; it has now appeared. He instructs Wilson to tell Faraday "that, finding myself a member of the Institute's committee charged with making a presentation for a position as foreign associate, I asked and obtained that he be included among the candidates. I wish him to see in this presentation the high esteem in which we hold his work"; but it was his compatriot Robert Brown who was elected. He also asked Wilson to distribute his Essai des matières d'argent par la voie humide to Faraday and other English scientists... Attached is a L.A.S. from Edmond FRÉMY to a colleague, September 23, 1854, detailing the results of his analysis of sheep's milk (2 p. ¼ in-4).
