Two versions of this important poem in 3 then 4 parts, which will be collected in L'Homme de cristal (1967, p.107-110). Early working manuscript, with erasures and corrections; the numbering will change with the addition of a first part. In the margin of the last leaf, Jacob has noted the abbé's name "Morel"; on the back of this leaf, 10 lines crossed out: "Et toi! pas même un légataire"... The cleaned-up manuscript, in 4 parts, shows a few corrections. I (4 quatrains): "Je partirai demain pour d'éternelles vacances!"... II (25 lines): "I feel all the cold of the earth"... III (21 lines): "Ant farm passes and passes away"... IV (12 lines): "My old clothes for sale"...
