Charles BAUDELAIRE. L.A.S. "C.B.", [ca. June 10, 1861, to Eugène Crépet]; 1 1/2 pages in-8.
About his articles on poets for the Revue fantaisiste and the collection of French Poets (1861), edited by Eugène Crépet (1827-1892). Here, he evokes his notices devoted to Victor Hugo, Gustave Le Vavasseur, Marceline Desbordes-Valmore, and Pierre Dupont.
"Indeed, this is the proof (Hugo) I had sent you for the Imprimerie. Claye will have it tomorrow, and I'll proofread it again. Be careful with the Levavasseur quotations, which are riddled with the most bizarre errors, including two or three wrong lines and an unintelligible stanza. I beg you, don't talk to me any more about your presque nu [Baudelaire referred to Le Vavasseur doing "almost naked" acrobatics on chairs]. I've agreed to remove anything in all the notices that was too harsh and could hurt people's feelings. This is a different matter. I assure you that I know my Levavasseur. - In Valmore, I'll add a line of note. Give the bearer the small volume of poems by Pierre Dupont; if I don't quote one more stanza, the quotation will be unintelligible"...
