Georges ENESCO (1881-1955). Proofs with autograph corrections and additions and P.A.S., Symphonie concertante pour violoncelle et orchestre op.8, [1906?]; 27pages in-fol. Abundantly corrected proofs. These proofs of the orchestral material, for publication by Enoch & Costallat (cotage E.&C. 6542), include the parts for 1st violins, 2nd violins and double basses. They are covered with corrections in black or purple pencil, mainly nuances of intensity (crescendo, decrescendo, etc.), with one bar of music added. Each bears this autograph note at the bottom: "Notice: In view of the weakness of the principal cello in relation to the orchestra, the nuances given to the accompanying instruments in brackets should be taken one or two degrees lower as strength, but not as character. So, for example, the (ff) will be more or less a poco f with the bite of the ff, the (mp) almost a pp with a little relief, the (< >) barely indicated, and so on. - Nuances without brackets retain their true intensity. The author". For each proof, Enesco requests "after careful correction, a final proof, please". At the end of the 1st Violins proof, he indicates a correction to be made on the timpani part. And at the end of the double bass proof, he indicates corrections to be made to the bassoon part.
