Complete manuscript of a poem Brassens supposedly developed from a short poem by Paul Fort; he did not set it to music.
Dedicated at the top "Pour Germaine", this poem has 4 quatrains and 5 distichs:
           "Without priest, mayor, notary
              Ou avec; ça se défend
We must love each other on earth
We must love each other alive"...
A couplet serves as a refrain, giving the poem its title: "Ne crois pas au cimetière/ Il faut nous aimer avant"; before the 4th reprise of this refrain, a couplet repeats the last two lines of the first stanza: "Il faut nous aimer sur terre/ Il faut nous aimer vivants".
The manuscript is dated at the end "Paris jeudi 14/12/78" and signed.
