Jules SUPERVIELLE. L.A.S., Mougins July 21, 1952, [to Lucien Beer, director of the Théâtre de l'Œuvre]; 2pages in-4. About his play Robinson, a fairy-tale comedy in 3 acts to be premiered on November 6, 1952 at the Théâtre de l'Œuvre. "He had considered Gérard Philipe or Jean-Pierre Aumont: "But if you want to play someone younger, you'll need a star" [it would be Jacques Dasque]. He would send Berr the final version, as he had made some seemingly minor but essential changes. As it stands, the piece no longer needs music: "There is a danger in adding music to a piece that is already very musical, very singable. The added music can damage the work. You'll see that the piece holds together dramatically from one end to the other. [...] The role of the narrator or narrators (one or 3 sailors) is very important in giving rhythm to Act 2 (the island act) in particular. He scans the verses loudly, underlining the music of the text". He adds that he hesitates "between the titles: Ce Robinson and Robinson".
