Gérard PHILIPE. L.S., April 24, 1959, to Pierre Dux; 2 pages infol. headed Syndicat Français des Acteurs, envelope.
Interesting file on Pierre Dux's resignation from the Actors' Union. As President of the Syndicat, Gérard Philippe responds to a letter from Pierre Dux (enclosed) in which the latter justifies his resignation by refusing to go on strike and accusing the Syndicat of lacking personality, being too politically oriented, etc. Philipe regrets this decision and replies to Pierre Dux's letter. Philipe regrets this decision and responds to his attacks, recalling the advantages acquired since the creation of the Syndicat in 1936: "The recognition of the status of salaried employee, thanks to which actors benefit from all social laws", weekly rest, paid matinees, supplementary retirement, recognition of the right to follow on television, etc. "Where do you see in all this, from which you profit, anything that is contrary to our "personality" or that is politically oriented? [...] You allude [...] to the presence at the head of our organization of "personalities who are too politically marked". This is an interpretation that could easily be described as tendentious"... As for his refusal to go on strike, Gérard Philipe reminds him that their elders also went on strike with courage, and that it was necessary... In conclusion, the Conseil Syndical refuses P. Dux's resignation, but has pronounced his expulsion...
We enclose 2 L.A. (minutes, one signed) from Pierre Dux to Gérard Philipe, March 14 and 26, 1959, expressing his reproaches and resigning from the Syndicat; and 5 tracts or letters from the Syndicat, calls to strike, information sheets, demands, etc.
