Jacques-Marie Boutet dit MONVEL (1745-1812). L.A.S., co-signed by 19 Sociétaires de la Comédie-Française, [1803], to their comrade Jean-Denis Benoît Dupont; 1 page and a quarter in-4.
Beautiful letter from the Sociétaires to their comrade who has just retired. [Jean-Denis Benoît Dupont (1767-1855), who joined the Comédie-Française in 1791 and became a Sociétaire the following year, had to leave the theater due to a serious illness]. Monvel wrote the letter as doyen. "You can have no doubt of the attachment of all those who make up the Comédie Française, of the interest and esteem you have inspired in all in general, in each one in particular. The Society will not limit itself to useless regrets and fruitless wishes. You can be sure that it will devote itself carefully and tirelessly to making your fate as pleasant as it is in its power to do so. Believe that she will be satisfied only as long as she knows you are happy. Talent, zeal, character, everything that makes up an interesting man, she has found in you, she will always miss the one who distinguished so many advantages and who will always be for her an object of esteem and affection. She will not lose a moment to give you proof of her tender friendship. Farewell. Love us as we love you, and count on the full devotion of your comrades".
In addition to Monvel, the following have signed: Armand, Marie-Thérèse Bourgoin, Émilie Contat, Alexandre Damas, Dazincourt, Eulalie Desbrosses, Mlle Devienne, Grandmesnil, Marie-Anne Lachassaigne, Barthélemy Larochelle, Mademoiselle Mars, Joséphine Mézeray, Michot, Françoise Raucourt, Saint-Fal, Saint-Prix, Mme Suin, Talma and Charles-Joseph Vanhove.
