Frédérick LEMAÎTRE. P.S., co-signed and apostilled by Anténor Joly, March 31, 1841; 2pages in-fol. Treaty with Anténor Joly, director of the Théâtre de la Renaissance, putting an end to their dispute. [Frédérick had been hired by Joly to combine the roles of actor and stage manager, but had been supplanted in the latter position by M. Lefevre, a provincial stage manager. A bone of contention therefore existed between the actor and the stage manager. One day, irritated by a remark, Frédérick abruptly left the theater, announcing his intention never to return. Joly, furious, took him to the Commercial Court, claiming a 6,000fr. forfeit stipulated in his contract]. In the end, the two adversaries made peace and drew up the following declaration: "The disagreements between the Théâtre de la Renaissance and Mr Frédérick Lemaitre have just been brought to an end by an honorable rapprochement for both parties. [...] Frédérick Lemaître, on learning that his retirement could compromise the fate of the theater and that of his comrades, hastened to renounce the right he held from the judgment rendered by the Tribunal de Commerce"... On April 3, Frédérick created the title role in Zacharie ou l'Avare de Florence; it was a failure.
