Eugène LABICHE (1815-1888). 3 L.A.S., 1866-1875; 6pages in-8.
Paris August 20, 1866, to Champfleury, whom he congratulates on his nomination as chevalier of the Legion of Honor, and thanks for sending him his book Monsieur Tringle. - Coubert August 22, 1867, to his collaborator (and director of the Bouffes-Parisiens) Auguste Lefranc. He has received a request from Déjazet to stage Piccolet at his theater. He had no problem "letting him perform this play, which has no chance of being remounted elsewhere". He comes to rehearsals for La Main leste on the 28th, 29th and 30th. - Paris May 30, 1875, to Albéric Second, his collaborator on Un mouton à l'entresol. He is going to Vittel for a cure of nephritic colic. Receipts at the Palais-Royal theater (where Un mouton à l'entresol has been running since April 30) exceed 65,000 francs; it will run until the end of June, Brasseur's knee feeling better. It may be that Le plus heureux des trois will be replaced by La Cagnotte and then by La Sensitive, but Un mouton à l'entresol will not leave the stage before Brasseur's leave on July 1. He heard from the Académie française: "You've been accepted for a prize by the commission, but the Académie hasn't voted yet. We only fear the Republican-Rémusat side, because there are a few sentences in your beautiful book that would make our democrats balk, but we hope they won't read your novel and will vote with confidence"...
We enclose 2 L.A.S. addressed to Labiche, from actors Jules Brasseur (April 18, 1858; plus one from his son), and Édouard Brindeau (August 4, 1870). Plus a L.A.S. from René Luguet, about his staging of Le Misanthrope et l'Auvergnat.
