Louis JOUVET. 2 L.A.S., Friday [1937?], to Charles Goldblatt; 2 1/4 pages small in-4 on Athénée Théâtre Louis Jouvet letterhead, one envelope.
Shooting of Julien Duvivier's Carnet de bal.
[Actor Charles Goldblatt (1906-1997), known as Charles Dorat, who had become friends with Jouvet at the time of Le Vieux Colombier, was Duvivier's assistant director for the shooting of Un carnet de bal].
Jouvet was happy to shoot with his "dear Charles": "I'll be Monday morning the 12th - in a well-disciplined and submissive tuxedo - and I'll try to know my lines". He sends him Monique Melinand "who is from my theater, and from my class at the Conservatoire, so that you can put her on your Carnet de Bal"... - He sends him Michèle Alfa: "Do you want to see if there's still a little space on the Carnet de Bal for her. [Best regards to Duvivier". He has read the first two acts of a play (by Goldblatt?), but fears "the subject and its transparency"....
