Adrien Wettach dit GROCK (1880-1959). L.S., Oneglia March 6, 1952, to Michel Simon, with draft a.s. of Michel SIMON's reply; 2pages in-4 headed Circus Grock and his thumbnail photo (1p. and a quarter dactyl., and ¾ for the reply).
Grock regrets not having been able to shake his hand after the premiere of his Parisian farewell at the Circus Médrano, but Jérôme Médrano's deplorable attitude was the cause of "this unpleasant end to the evening", which Grock forgives him for, "as he is madly in love with the dancer Violette Schmidt, for whom he forgets even his personal interests"; he came to apologize, and Grock told him "that his way of doing things was not worthy of a lineage of the stature of Boum-Boum, his late father, who was my great friend". However, he agreed to return to Médrano in January. Grock will be leaving to join his newly-founded circus in Hamburg.
In his reply, Michel Simon addresses "My dear uncle Grock. And why shouldn't I [...] have the right to impose a nephew on you, since I've loved and admired you for so long, I feel I belong to your family. [...] Of course your abandonment at Medrano made me very sad, I suddenly looked like an old orphan on my bench"... For the past year, he has been going through a difficult period in his life, due to a spinal accident, and above all morally... "You are the greatness, the nobility, the poetry of our profession as entertainer"...
