Pierre FRESNAY. Autograph manuscript, Mais pourquoi allez-vous jouer au Vieux-Colombier, [January 1931]; 1 page and a half in-4 in pencil. Fresnay explains why he is going to play André Obey's Noé in January 1931 with the Compagnie des Quinze, for their debut at the Théâtre du Vieux-Colombier (January 1931). He loved Copeau, and was delighted to see "the Vieux Colombier revived by the return of those whom Copeau had just let loose from him, as the tree lets loose the fruit it has nurtured to maturity. [...] I'm interested because they bring back from Burgundy, in addition to their endearing sensibility, a new experience of all the games of theater, of which we only exploit such a small part, always playing easy plays. - Discovering new games, new means of expression, new relationships between the audience and the actors, between the actors themselves, a new discipline of play, imposed by a new stage set-up - there really is something to be tempted by, at a time when so many actors are rushing to the talking film."
