ROBERT PICAULT (1919-2000)
A key figure in the ceramics revival of the 1950s, Robert Picault trained with Derval and Capron at the École des arts appliqués in Paris. Settling in Vallauris, he co-founded the Callis workshop with Capron, before opening his own studio. His work is characterized by large-scale decorative pieces and a rich vocabulary of animal and geometric motifs in shades of green and brown. He devoted a significant part of his production to tableware, in the spirit of high-end series. At the same time, in the 1960s, he developed more intimate and personal works, while retaining a lively palette and incisive graphics.
