JEAN LURÇAT (1892-1966) CARDBOARD PAINTER & SANT-VICENS POTTERY
The meeting between the painter Jean Lurçat and the Sant-Vicens workshop in 1951 marked the beginning of a collaboration that spanned fifteen years of creative work. For Lurçat, ceramics became a space of absolute freedom, a laboratory where motifs, decorations and color palettes unfolded without constraints - in contrast to some of his explorations in the world of tapestry. Working alongside studio head Gumersind Gomila, the artist created bold, vividly-toned pieces on which the plant motifs and singular bestiary that make up his rich pictorial vocabulary evolved.
