ALEXANDRE KOSTANDA (1921-2007)
Alexandre Kostanda was one of the most dynamic figures in French ceramics. As a teacher and mentor to Daniel de Montmollin and the founding artists of Poterie d'Accolay, as well as head of Louis Giraud's workshop, he played a leading role in the transmission and promotion of art - co-founding the Vallauris International Ceramic Biennial. At the same time, he opened his own workshop in Vallauris in 1953, where he specialized in the production of stoneware pieces with singular shapes, decorated with a variety of incised motifs, rendered in a characteristic muted chromatic range.
