JEAN GIREL (BORN 1947)
Trained at the Beaux-Arts in Mâcon, with a degree in plastic arts, Jean Girel has created an ambitious body of work deeply rooted in the ceramic traditions of the West and the Far East. A great connoisseur of the history of ceramics, and above all a great technician, this "self-taught" artist is renowned for his work in stoneware and porcelain with characteristically fine glazes - developing his own pastes, glazes, firing protocols and kilns. A teacher, lecturer, writer and consultant, he also plays a major role in the transmission of ceramic knowledge.
