ROLAND BRICE (1911-1989)
Fernand Léger's ceramist-pratician, Roland Brice was above all the man who, through his mastery and technical knowledge, was able to take the Cubist painter's universe out of the canvas and make it accessible to all. The plastic possibilities of clay, manipulated by Brice, accentuate the synthesizing and geometrizing of forms, as well as the power of contrasts, inseparable from his artistic language. The "polychrome sculptures" Léger and Brice created together combine three indispensable elements: color, volume and architecture. After Léger's death, Brice continued this quest, developing his own artistic language, also marked by modernity.
