PIERRE BAYLE (1945-2004)
Trained at the C.E.T. in Castelnaudary, Pierre Bayle began his ceramic career as a wheel-turner in several potteries in Paris, before opening his own workshop in Mailhac in 1974. It was here that he began to explore the ancestral techniques of terra sigillata, which he succeeded in perfecting, making the "skin" aspect of the pieces a typical feature of his stylistic language. Inspired by the forms of Antiquity and nature, his bold works are adorned with brown-red or black-gray nuances - due to the application of iron oxides, fired by oxidation or reduction - that are inseparable from his work.
