JO AMADO (1916-1963)
Born Joséphine Steenackers, Belgian resistance fighter Jo Amado moved to Aix-en-Provence in 1946 to devote herself to pottery. There she met ceramist and sculptor Jean Amado, whom she married, and with him joined the "Aix Group", which brought together post-war ceramic talent around Émilie Decanis. Jo plays a key role in the development of their ceramic production, combining her acute sense of color and her extensive knowledge of art, while ensuring its distribution to galleries and collectors.
