Icon of the Virgin of Tikhvin. Second half of the 17th century. A basma frame of four gilded brass bands with scroll motifs. The nimbus and a large tsata, also in gilded brass, are decorated with engraved scrolls on an amati background. The Virgin's veil is made of braided wire mesh with silver or silver-plated metal beads. On the forehead, the trace of a large colored stone (precious or not) remains. More modern studding is widely used, but a few old nails remain. The edge is covered with a gilded braid on silk thread, older but later. The spine is covered with a glued fabric. The only stiffener remains on the spine. Wood tempera. The board is probably hollowed out with a kovcheg. 22.5 x 18 cm Aсcidents. [Russian art]
