Vladimir Vladimirovich NABOKOV (1899-1977)
Two letters from Nabokov to Denis Roche:
- A business card from Nabokov with a small handwritten note on the back, "Dear friend, I'm sending you a ticket to 'Событие', I'm staying in Menton / All yours." Although the note is undated, it is unquestionably from late February or early March 1938, the first play having taken place on March 4, 1938.
- A two-page handwritten letter sent from Menton dated March 11, 1938, in which he mentions a problem with a draft translation [of Fialta] and worries whether Roche has received the ticket for "События" from the theater.
Enclosed is the draft of D. Roche's reply dated March 22, 1938 including flattering praise for the play and a point on the problem of translating Fialta.

Provenance: Archives of Denis Roche.
