Rare print of the Year I Constitution, drawn up by a 9-member committee of the Montagnard Convention from a draft by Condorcet and promulgated on 6 Messidor Year I (June 24, 1793). It consists of a declaration of the rights of man and citizen (divided into 35 articles occupying 5 pages) and a constitutional act concerning the organization of public powers (124 articles occupying 13 pages). This deeply democratic constitution, which provided for universal suffrage, greater decentralization, the right to insurrection and the right to happiness, was never applied in the end, due to the state of exception established during the Terror.
