These drawings, some with anti-Semitic overtones, were published in the Écho de Paris of March 19, 1899, April 23, 1899, December 10, 1899, March 18, 1900 and March 25, 1900, against the backdrop of the Dreyfus Affair. Jean-Louis Forain was one of the founders of Psst...! in 1898, along with Caran d'Ache. He contributed numerous illustrations to this anti-Dreyfus and anti-Semitic journal.
