Kashinath CHAWAN (b. 1958) Untitled Colored ballpoint pens on gray paper. Unsigned. 53 x 32.5 Provenance : Collection Jean-Jacques Plaisance, Galerie Les Yeux Fertiles, Paris. Kashinath Chawan, a shoemaker by trade, draws with ballpoint pen on recycled paper and cardboard, which he transforms into expressive surfaces. Without preparatory sketches, he creates his works from repeated fine hatchings, developing a delicate style of chiaroscuro and subtle textures. Self-taught, he devotes his spare time to depicting Hindu deities and mythological figures from the Mahabharata and Ramayana, as well as political figures and Indian cinema personalities.
