Small composite silver coffee pot, North India, Gujarat or Rajasthan, 19th century
Campaniform coffee pot on pedestal, flanked by a spiral handle with aviform latch and curved spout topped by a bird. Inscription in devanagari under the foot.
Height: 11.8 cm; diameter: 9 cm; weight: 254 g
Minor dents and scratches, small traces of oxidation and soldering, suspension chain and possibly lid missing.

This jug features an atypical mechanism in which the spout's outlet does not end in the body but in the foot of the object, allowing the liquid to fill the body through the bottom, which is closed by a small flower-shaped tenon. The spout and scroll handle, both surmounted by a bird, evoke the chuski wine or spirit flasks often depicted in Indian paintings.
