Large mirror case with scenes of Yusuf and Zuleikha, Iran qâjâr, 19th century Rectangular case in painted and lacquered papier-mâché, closed by a lid. Both sides of the lid and the back are painted with figurative scenes from the story of Yusuf and Zuleikha. The front of the lid and the back of the case show the couple seated in front of a window, surrounded by servants, a dancer and two musicians in the foreground. The back of the cover depicts Yusuf with his nimbed face seated in a throne facing Zuleikha, a crown placed between them. The scenes are surrounded by Persian nasta'liq verses calligraphed in cartouches. Interior upholstered in blue velvet. 40.5 x 27.5 cm Reglazed case, very restored back, minor chips and accidents, lid secured with metal wires, mirror missing.
