Henri Rachou (1855-1944) Cyclamens. 1894. Lithograph. [134x180mm]. Fine proof on white vellum, pasted in full on bristol board. Light scattered foxing. Full margins. Provenance: Michel Romand (1929-2013), great-grandson of Edmond Sagot (1857-1917). This plate was used to illustrate the catalog of the exhibition organized by the newspaper La Dépêche de Toulouse, which opened in its salons on May 15, 1894. Among the artists who also contributed lithographed illustrations were Pierre Bonnard, Maurice Denis, Eugène Grasset, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Félix Vallotton, Édouard Vuillard... Rachou and Toulouse-Lautrec were compatriots and enjoyed a long friendship. It is likely that Rachou learned the lithographic sputtering technique used here from his friend.
