River necklace in silver and 14K (585) gold, adorned with falling pink glass pastes. Work of the 19th century. Length: approx. 37 cm. Gross weight: 32.2 g (chips, one additional pâte de verre rose, clasp attached). These necklaces were very popular in the late 18th century and throughout the 19th century. Adorned with precious stones or glass paste, they produced a remarkable effect on the throats of elegant women. Generally mounted on pearls to enhance their intensity, they also existed without pearls, when the quality of the stones permitted. The necklace we present is of rare quality, and has survived the centuries without losing any of its brilliance. G.Redington Dawes & O. Collings, Georgian Jewellery 1714-1830, 2007, p. 76-77
