MÉHEUT (Mathurin) - COLETTE. " Regarde..." Paris : J.-G. Deschamps, [1929]. - In-folio, 379 x 284 : (16 ff. first and last blank), illustrated cover. First edition of this sumptuous work dedicated to marine flora and fauna, a true tribute to the Emerald Coast. It is illustrated with 20 compositions by Mathurin Méheut, stenciled by Jean Saudé. Originally designed for children, this book is the fruit of a two-year collaboration between Colette and Mathurin Méheut, initiated by publisher Jean-Guy Deschamps. The idea was to ask Colette to write a text to accompany Méheut's drawings. Under the title "Regarde", the book actually brings together two separate texts: "Regarde" and "La Flaque". Méheut played a central role in the book's conception, choosing the paper and layout, while carefully supervising the coloring of his illustrations by Jean Saudé. This is the first and only collaboration between Colette and Méheut. Mathurin Méheut played a central role in the book's design: he chose the paper and layout, and personally supervised the colorization of his illustrations by Jean Saudé. This is the first and only collaboration between Colette and Méheut. Limited edition of 750 copies, this is one of the first 20 on japon impérial (no. 15). It is enriched with a folio featuring two original drawings by Mathurin Méheut, depicting two seahorses and a sea toad. The artist's signature appears in the upper left-hand corner of the leaf. Soiling, dampstaining and spotting on the cover. Some light soiling inside.
